People will forget what you said
People will forget what you did
But people will never forget
how you made them feel
Maya Angelou
Hello, my name is Kay and I am a wedding, vow renewal, child naming and funeral celebrant.
I have worked in the events industry for over 25 years, so one thing I know how to do, is to make people feel special. A few years ago, I wanted to look for something new, I looked for a career that would benefit from my skillset and help others feel good on a personal level. I love the creativity of writing and designing the little individual flairs that turns an event from ordinary to extraordinary.
Becoming a qualified civil celebrant appeared to be the perfect choice; and I’m so happy to say that I have not regretted one minute of that decision.
Having qualified with a highly respected company who have the highest standards, the training I received has helped me to provide beautiful, personal ceremonies that I am honoured to have delivered on behalf of some amazing people since that time.
Here are a few of my reasons ‘why’ I love being a celebrant.
The look of surprise on the couple’s face who were celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary and who thought they were having a family meal together. Instead, their two daughters had arranged for them to renew their wedding vows before their family meal. Suffice to say, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room by the end of the ceremony – it was truly beautiful.
The baby naming ceremony that was held on the child’s first birthday. After three hours of party fun with bouncy castle and soft-play area, the rest of the children were so exhausted that they were happy to sit at the front in awe of the Godparents pledging to love and support this child in all his lifetime endeavours.
Weddings are so special that in order to make it ‘the best day of our lives’, it is one of the greatest challenges, yet also one of the most rewarding. Being involved with the couple from the inkling of an idea, right through to delivering the perfect unique ceremony, is what makes my job so worthwhile. I also created special ‘lockdown weddings‘ for those who were unable to get another chance due to their circumstances.
And finally, turning a traditional Funeral into a celebration of someone’s life is the final thing that I can do for the family of the deceased. Writing a eulogy which perfectly sums up the life and loves of someone by compassionately talking to family members, is a skill. I will bring dignity, compassion and usually a little humour, to lift a solemn occasion; this can sometimes be all that is needed to help the family to begin the process of grieving together.
I truly love my role as a Civil Celebrant and I am passionate about providing a caring, considerate and personal service to all of my amazing clients.
